Team of multidisciplinary experts leaded by Actia Forum company has prepared a paper on requirements identification as well as costs and benefits evaluation from implementation of Ballast Water Management Convention in Poland. The main objective of the Convention is prevention, minimization and ultimately elimination of the transfer of Harmful Aquatic Organisms and Pathogens through ballast water and sediments. This objective may be achieved by installation of the Ballast Water Treatments Systems installed on vessels. The report provided by Actia Forum covers the following issues: investigation of the state-of-art BWMC regulatory framework, identification of relevant fleet and its technical and financial requirements concerning installation of ballast water treatment systems, revision of procedural requirements as well as review of experiences, practices and current status of implementation of Convention in European countries.
